BORN TO LOVE

MAKEUP?

I was born to primp and please those who wanted to learn my tricks”. When I was old enough to reach up to see in the mirror I played in makeup. Makeup has always been my passion. Growing up on a farm left me no alternative, but to teach myself. There was no one around. I promised myself, if I could learn how to look prettier, I could teach others how they can be pretty. Finding products were difficult not to mention the selection for girls my age. In my later teen years my journey began and my passion grew as I began modeling and teaching women what I was learning.

Decades later and endless hours of work, I discovered a way to conceptianally teach women how to create their own Makeover through Self-Care at home.

My research, testing, creating, developing, manufacturing and marketing, along with business, has allowed me the experience to innovate beauty solutions that often go unnoticed for women. The past and the present are coupled with new and innovative Having experience in all areas is shared with my staff and passed along to my clients."

WELCOME TO

MAKEUP BASICS

ONCE YOU LEARN THESE BASICS YOU CAN SKILLFULLY RECREATE YOUR OWN LOOK AT HOME.

These basics truly help women just like you to make the artistry of makeup simple and easy as you begin to build your skill level and be your own beauty specialist. Makeup brands will come and go, but some of the legendary products and techniques stay the same, because they work.

Making Makeup is much like Home Cooking and Party Food. Either way, each requires basic ingredients and correct proportions to make us come back for more. And ... at each meal most of us want to have some basic food groups. Personally, I love hors d' oeuvres. I could make a meal on just those yummy foods, but that doesn't make sense if I want to be healthy. A great chef plans, preps and creates the recipe for a special meal, presentation included with an hors d’ oeuvres, entrée and ending with a dessert. Alone ...not a lot of hope for health.

FOUR (4) BASIC MAKEUP FACTS TO KNOW

1. FOUNDATION

A foundation determines the final results of makeup application.

2. FACE SHAPE

Where to chisel areas and highlight others allows you to Design, Define & Diffuse - Brows, Cheekbones, Eyes, Lips, Hairline, Nose, Chin and Jaw areas.

3. CORRECTIVE MAKEUP

Creams vs. Powders, Shimmer vs Matte, pigment loads and formulations to shadow and highlight to perfection. Anti-Aging color tones vs others.

4. BRUSHES & TOOLS

Qualify the hair type and its density, brush measurements and handle weight.

BUILD UPON BASICS

SEE IT. LEARN IT. DO IT.

Knowing the essentials of painting a portrait is one thing, but having the skills to transfer life onto a flat canvas starts with knowledge and a plan. The same is true in makeup artistry. As I develop makeup it is for a purpose that remains. Influencers, Bloggers and Sales Associates along with Makeup Artists, daily wade through tons of products, promoting trends or the look of the season or the brand that is pushing a trend.

The fashion industry sets trends and the cosmetic companies follow. Buying beautiful basics in our wardrobe has always made sense. Why not buy makeup basics and then add colors to blend and make other colors. No need to swap colors each season, simply blend together to make other colors. Brand your look and adjust your colors within a season. No need to listen to those confusing messages and buy into the noise of beauty in a bottle. It becomes a disadvantage to you, the consumer, when the brands advice is not justified and you don’t benefit. Otherwise, you really don't know what you are buying and most of the time women wind up not knowing how to use the product they purchased.

" Makeup is something that most every woman in the world owns. What she loves, what works for her and how to use it may not apply to every woman in the world. Help me, help you! "

THE BIRTH OF

MAKEUP

Initially, products were created for special effects used in the Theatre, Film, TV. Fashion and Print industries. From Greasepaint for contours, highlighters and foundations to highly pigmented colors for powders and creams, the Legendary Make Artist of the Golden Age of Hollywood learned the skills as they mixed and blended just about anything to create just about everything and always to be spot on if the spotlight was on their creation. Hollywood Makeup Artist skills gave us characters we loved and loved to hate, from Beauties, Villains, Frankenstein to Mary Poppins.

Tools of their trade were hand made, cut and textured to include sponges, powder puffs and brushes … must for an artist to blend and create application to achieve color levels and textures.

In those Hollywood Golden Years, Makeup was not a word used, rather Cosmetics was the name of the game. However, theatrical makeup was not used outside of that industry. As the film industry changed and the public welcomed TV into their homes, more female actress competed for roles. To maintain their silver screen image … in public, the need to be beautiful everyday became an necessity. Thus the word “Makeup” came from women wanting their faces made up. Lighter greasepaints and transparent matte finishes were made into neutral colors because women loved to make up their faces, the birth of the word Makeup became an Industry word.

TRADITIONAL

MAKEUP

First came traditional brands of makeup that developed products to easily be applied at home. TV was the main source of advertising. Simple to do products such as nail polish, lip-gloss and rouge became ideal products to apply at home. Next came shampoos and hair color. As women began working outside of the home companies added to their mix through the increase of distribution channels available in drug stores and direct sales.

The demand to learn how to do makeup grew and became an industry trade for those who could master the skills and find a platform to share those skills with society. As makeup artists filtered through their traditional brands, mixing and melting theatrical makeup with traditional makeup, it became frustrating and unsanitary, yet their clients loved the results.

Soon makeup artists saw the demand of this type of product and wanted more for their clients. It wasn’t until the early 70’s Professional Makeup was offered to the public.

INTRODUCTION OF

PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP

A handful of highly experienced makeup artist who had been mixing their own products to replace the traditional brands that were not delivering results found their clients wanted to use their concoctions everyday.

These professional artist, were brave enough to launch brands bearing their name offered in specialty stores and department stores. The term Professional Makeup was added as a new category of makeup to differentiate these brands from the more traditional makeup brands sold in stores.

Gradually lipsticks became more pigmented, foundations formulated with coverage from sheer to complete coverage. Makeup Artist who worked in the fashion industry gravitated to these brands with their clients in tow. Companies added Makeup Artist at retails counters to demonstrate this new type of makeup . Most Professional brands today bear the name of the Makeup Artist who originally created the line.

In 1973, Christi Harris was within that handful of first creators taking a slightly different direction from the fashion industry. Christi developed a methodology that translated to society using instructional tools and products to easily recreate their new looks at home, called an Instructional Makeover.

THE CHRISTI HARRIS

MAKEOVER CENTER

IN 1983, CHRISTI INTRODUCED THE FIRST OF ITS KIND SPA & SALON WITH PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTISTS TEACHING WOMEN HOW TO RECREATE THEIR NEW LOOK AT HOME.

The word Makeover became synonymous with the brand. Always staying true to teaching women to take ownership and never be at the mercy of someone else remains. FACTS ABOUT HAIR...

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

"My products work with all hair types, because ALL hair functions the same way and needs the same nutrients...just like our bodies all need healthy food and water to survive."

Christi Harris

Everyone wants beautiful hair...silky, shiny & full of body. The key is balance, hair that has equal amounts of protein & moisture. These essential elements are stripped from the hair through sun exposure, chemical processes & heat styling. Stress, diet, hormonal fluctuations & the aging process also threaten the natural balance & condition of the hair.

Healthy hair must be both strong & supple, able to bend without breaking. This is possible only when the cuticle, the protective outer layer, is smooth, flat & intact. When the hair strand is damaged, the cuticle is weakened by cracks, resulting in dry & brittle hair that breaks easily. This condition is a symptom of protein deficiency, not a lack of moisture. Since hair consists of 80% protein, it is the only substance that will heal & repair the strand. Only a plant-based protein with a small enough molecule will enter the strand, any other type will just sit on the surface, coating the hair. When the cracks are filled with protein the bond reinforces the strand, restoring resiliency.

After the damaged hair strand is patched with protein it must be sealed with moisture. Protein should always be used in combination with moisture. If used alone, protein can dehydrate the hair, & if you condition with just moisture the strand will merely become limp. This fusion allows the hair to receive strength through protein & hydration through moisture...simultaneously, without sacrificing one for the other. It is important to always treat the cause, not just the symptoms of hair frustrations.

Q & A

WHY DON'T YOU HAVE SPECIFIC HAIR PRODUCTS TO ADDRESS DIFFERENT HAIR TYPES LIKE OTHER BRANDS DO?

My products work with all hair types, because ALL hair functions the same way and needs the same nutrients...just like our bodies all need healthy food and water to survive. Hair is about 80% protein, it is the main ingredient hair needs to stay strong, shiny and have volume. Most people will use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner if their hair looks dull or dry, only to have their hair limp out. That's because too much moisture weighs hair down, making it limp, lifeless and sometimes frizzy. Protein is what gives your hair shine and body and then moisture locks the protein into the hair follicle. The key to no more 'bad hair days' is to get your hair into balance with just the right amounts of protein and moisture. Fix your hair with products that contain the ingredients that work with the way your hair works.

Q & A

MY HAIR IS VERY FINE & IS ALWAYS LIMP & LIFELESS. WHAT CAN I DO TO GIVE IT MORE VOLUME?

You must bring moisture level down or your hair will always be flat, easily tangled and possibly frizzy. Cut moisture by adding more protein to your hair with products that have water soluble vegetable protein. My weekly treatment will help get you started.

The weekly products include protein spray to nourish hair and a moisture-packed mask to seal in protein and my Volumizing Gel is absolutely the best to give you extra volume. There is nothing on the market like it.

Q & A

MY HAIR IS SO THICK AND HEAVY THAT I CAN'T GET ANY HEIGHT, I ALWAYS HAVE FLAT HAIR. WHAT CAN I DO?

Start with a good cut. If your hair is heavy and thick, thank your mom and dad and then find a good Stylist in your area. Find someone's hair style that you like and ask them where they got their cut. Next, consult with the Stylist before you actually make the appointment for the cut. Finally, use my Volumizing Gel on your roots and blow dry upside down. You will be amazed! Welcome to Happy Hair Days!

Q & A

MY HAIR IS ALWAYS BREAKING OFF. I CAN'T SEEM TO EVER GROW IT OUT. WHAT IS WRONG?

Many times women are told to only apply conditioner to the ends of their hair so the conditioner won't weigh down hair. You MUST condition your hair from your roots down to your ends. As your hair gets older if you don't keep the entire hair strand strong, your hair will always break off.

Q & A

HOW DO I TAME MY NATURAL CURLY HAIR?

A good cut can be helpful. I have naturally curly hair and my hair treatment keeps it in perfect shape. If you want to only tame your hair and let it curl naturally, use my leave-in conditioner, Recovery Energizer. Scrunch it with a little Volumizing Gel and dry with a diffuser. I love it when I do that...it is so easy.

Q & A

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE FRIZZIES?

Too much moisture in your hair can make hair frizzy. You see if you have too much moisture by skipping conditioner on your hair one time after you shampoo. Is your hair tangled? If yes, then you have way too much moisture. When too much moisture in hair hits the moisture outside, your hair will frizz and flop. This is why flat irons are used...to remove moisture. It's best to do it the healthy way with my hair treatment but you have to go by the directions, following each step. Everything I do is a system, like a prescription. If you use it correctly, it will work.

You may also book an appointment for a professional blow dry. You can go to almost any salon for this. Many times it is the way we blow dry our hair that can make it frizzy.

Q & A

MY COLOR WON'T STAY ON, IT FADES IN THE FIRST WEEK. WHAT CAN I DO?

Many shampoos are full of surfactants that can strip the color. All your hair products should be for color treated hair, not just your shampoo but conditioners and styling aids, too. A good Stylist and reputable Salon will probably use good color products. Personally, my Stylist uses Schwarzkopf color on my low lites. When I use my weekly treatment the protein locks in my color and stays for 6 months...really! I only have to shampoo every 4th day since I use my Volumizing Gel each morning and roll on Velcro rollers.
